अनुकम्पा- गणेशप्रसाद वर्णी जी सागर मोराजी से वेदान्ती के आगे नदी तक लड़कों के साथ घूमने जाते थे, नदी के पास एक लकड़ी का गट्ठा लिए बुढ़िया बैठी रो रही थी, वर्णीजी ने पूँछा क्या हो गया? उसने कहा पैर में काँटा लग गया है, चलते नहीं बन रहा, शाम हो गयी, वर्णी जी ने लुहार के यहाँ से संसी मँगायी, उसने नहीं दी, वर्णीजी रोष में बोले! ''छीन कर ले आओ'' और काँटा निकाला, एक-एक लकड़ी लड़कों को देकर बुढ़िया को उसके घर भेज दिया था।

Compassion: Ganeshprasad Varni ji used to go with some boys for a walk from Sagar-Moraji past the Vedanti's place to the river. Near the river an old woman sat weeping over a bundle of firewood. Varni ji asked what was wrong; she said a thorn had pierced her foot and she could not walk, and evening had fallen. Varni ji sent for pincers from the blacksmith's, but the man would not give them; angered, Varni ji said, 'Snatch them and bring them,' and drew out the thorn. Giving the boys a stick of the wood each to carry, he sent the old woman home.
