कालसौकरिक कषायी ने हिंसा नहीं की, उसके पिता ने बहुत समझाया, उसने कहा हिंसा से जो दुःख होगा उसको तुम लोग बटाओगे? सबने हाँ कह दिया, उसने अपने पैर पर कुल्हाड़ी मार ली, कहा दुःख हो रहा है बटाओ, लोगों ने कहा बेटा दुःख तो तुम को ही भोगना पड़ेगा, हम संवेदना प्रकट कर सकते हैं, कालसौकरिक कषायी की इस घटना से उस सहित पाँच सौ कषायी अहिंसक बन गये थे।

Kalasaukarik, a butcher, did not commit violence; his father urged him much, and he said, 'The suffering that comes from violence—will you people share it?' All said yes. He struck an axe on his own foot and said, 'I am suffering, share it.' The people said, 'Son, you alone must bear the suffering; we can only express sympathy.' By this event, five hundred butchers, including him, became non-violent.
