यमपाल का संयम– राजा ने अष्टान्हिक में सभी को हिंसा न करने का आदेश दिया, राजकुमार ने राजाज्ञा का उल्लङ्घन करके एक भेड़ को मारकर खा लिया, राजा को पता चला, तो राजा ने राजकुमार को फाँसी की सजा देने का आदेश दिया, चाण्डाल ने चतुर्दशी के दिन हिंसा का त्याग किया था जिसके कारण फाँसी देने से मना कर दिया, राजा ने दोनों को बाँधकर तालाब में फैकने का आदेश दिया, चाण्डाल के चतुर्दशी को हिंसा के त्याग के नियम के प्रभाव से, देवों ने सिंहासन की रचना की एवं राज कुमार को जल जन्तु खा गये।

A king ordered that none should commit violence during the Ashtanhika festival. The prince broke the order, killed and ate a sheep; on learning this the king ordered him hanged. The executioner, a Chandala, had vowed on Chaturdashi to abstain from violence and refused to hang him. The king had both bound and thrown into a lake. By the power of the Chandala's vow of non-violence on Chaturdashi, the gods fashioned a throne for him, while water-creatures devoured the prince.
