शिकारी ने हाथ में जिंदा चिड़िया लेकर साधु से पूछा ये मरी है या जिन्दा? साधु ने कहा मरी है, वहाँ साधु का अभिप्राय झूठ बोलने का नहीं था चिड़िया के प्राण बचाने का था इसलिए झूठ होते हुए भी सत्य है।

A hunter, holding a live bird in his hand, asked a sage whether it was dead or alive. The sage answered 'dead'—not intending falsehood but wishing to save the bird's life; so though a lie, it was truth.
