नारद जी गङ्गा स्नान करने गये, घाट पर एक कन्या रो रही थी, पचास-पचास साल के ज्ञान और वैराग्य नामक दो मृत पुत्र पड़े थे, कन्या का नाम था भक्ति, पञ्चम काल में ज्ञान और वैराग्य बूढ़े हो गये किन्तु भक्ति रूपी माँ युवती है अर्थात् संगीत से सब झूमने लगते हैं अतः क्षयोपशम के अनुसार अपने ज्ञान और वैराग्य को बढ़ाते हुए भक्ति के माध्यम से अपना कल्याण करना चाहिए।

When Narada went to bathe in the Ganga, a maiden was weeping at the bank; her two dead sons, named Knowledge and Detachment, aged fifty each, lay there, while the maiden's name was Devotion. In this fifth era Knowledge and Detachment have grown old, but Mother Devotion is still young — everyone sways to her music. So, growing our knowledge and detachment according to our capacity, we should attain welfare through devotion.
