विसर्जन की कथा- गणेश जी के भक्त, नाव में बैठकर, नदी पार कर रहे थे, तूफान को आया देखकर सभी डर रहे थे, अचानक नाव में पानी भरने लगा, तो हर भक्त गणेशजी का स्मरण करने लगा, गणेशजी नाव पर दौड़े-दौड़े आये, कुछ नृत्य के दृश्य दिखलाये, नाव थर्राने लगी, भक्त की जान मुंह में आने लगी, भक्त बोला, भगवान हम मर रहे हैं, ऐसे समय में आप ये क्या कर रहे हैं? गणेशजी बोले प्रिय भक्तों, जिस तरह तुम मुझे विसर्जन करने के लिये ले जाते हो, तब तुम जिस तरह नाचते गाते खुशियाँ मनाते हो, मैं भी बस उसी क्रम को दोहरा रहा हूँ, और नाच गा कर तुम्हे डुबा रहा हूँ।

The tale of immersion — Devotees of Ganesha were crossing a river by boat. Seeing a storm approach, all grew afraid; suddenly the boat began taking on water, and every devotee began remembering Ganesha. Ganesha came running upon the boat and displayed some scenes of dancing; the boat began to shudder, the devotees' lives seemed to reach their throats. A devotee cried, 'Lord, we are dying — what are You doing at such a time?' Ganesha said, 'Dear devotees, just as you carry me off for immersion, dancing and singing and rejoicing, I too am merely repeating that same routine — dancing and singing, I am drowning you.'
