रात्रि में भोजन करने से पुरुष स्त्री वेद को प्राप्त होते हैं, और वे स्त्रियाँ अनाथ, सौभाग्यहीन, माता-पिता तथा भाई से रहित, शोक एवं दरिद्रता से युक्त होती हैं, जिनके हाथ-पैर आदि अङ्ग रूक्ष तथा फटे हुए हैं, जिनकी नाक चपटी है, जिनका देखना ग्लानि को उत्पन्न करता है, जिनके नेत्र कीचड़ से भरे हैं, जिनके लक्षण दुष्ट हैं, जिनके शरीर से दुर्गन्ध आती है, जिनके होठ कटे तथा मोटे हैं, जिनके कान विरूप हैं, जिनके केश पीले तथा रूक्ष हैं, जिनके दाँत तूमड़ी के बीज के समान हैं, शरीर सूखा है, जो कानी, लंगड़ी और कान्ति रहित हैं, विरूप हैं, कठोर चमड़ी वाली हैं, अनेक रोगों से सहित हैं, मलिन हैं, फटे वस्त्र वाली हैं, खराब भोजन से जीवित हैं, दूसरों के कार्य पर आश्रित हैं, दुःखों के भार से दबी हुई हैं, बाल्यावस्था में ही पति के मरण के दुःख से दुःखी हैं, पानी भरती हैं, लकड़ियाँ ढोती हैं, बड़े दुःख से पेट भर पाती हैं, सब लोगों से तिरस्कृत हैं, कुवचन रूप वसूला से जिनका मन नष्ट हो गया है, तथा शरीर सैकड़ों घावों का आधार है, ऐसी स्त्रियाँ रात्रिभोजन करने से ही होती हैं।

By eating at night men attain womanhood, and those women become orphaned, luckless, bereft of parents and brothers, filled with grief and poverty, with rough and cracked limbs, flat noses, and an appearance that arouses disgust; their eyes are full of rheum, their marks are inauspicious, their bodies stink, their lips are gashed and thick, their ears deformed, their hair yellow and coarse, their teeth like gourd-seeds, their bodies withered; one-eyed, lame and lustreless, deformed, hard-skinned, afflicted by many diseases, filthy, in torn clothes, living on bad food, dependent on others' work, crushed under the weight of sorrows, grieving over a husband's death in childhood, drawing water, carrying firewood, barely filling their bellies with great hardship, scorned by all, their minds shattered by the axe of harsh words, their bodies the seat of hundreds of wounds — such women arise only from eating at night.
