जो रात्रिभोजन करता है, वह डाकिनी–शाकिनी तथा भूत–प्रेतादि निन्द्य प्राणियों के साथ खाता है। जो रात्रि में खाता है उसने कुत्ता, चूहा, बिल्ली आदि मांसाहारी जीवों के साथ खाया अथवा व्यर्थ के विस्तार से क्या? इतना ही कहा जाता है कि रात्रि में खाने वाले ने सब अपवित्र पदार्थ खाये, रात्रि में दीपकों के ऊपर जो पिपीलिका आदि जीव पड़ते हैं, रात्रि में खाने वाले पुरुष ग्रासों के साथ उन्हें भी निगल जाते हैं।

One who eats at night eats along with witches, ghouls, spirits and other contemptible beings. One who eats at night has eaten with dog, mouse, cat and other flesh-eating creatures — but why elaborate needlessly? This much is said: the night-eater consumes all impure things; the ants and insects that fall upon the lamps at night are swallowed by the night-eater along with his mouthfuls.
