मुनि निन्दा- एक व्यक्ति साधुओं की बहुत निन्दा करता था, तो एक सेठजी ने कहा कि मैं अष्टान्हिक में मुनि को आहार देकर ही आहार करता हूँ, आप आठ दिन के लिए मुनि बन जाएँ, आपको बहुमूल्य वस्तु का इनाम एवं बढ़िया आहार करायेंगे, वह व्यक्ति लोभ वश तैयार हो गया, पर केश लोंच करने में दाँतों पसीना आ गया एवं उस दिन उपवास करना पड़ा तो दिन में तारे दिख गये, पारणा के दिन हलुआ पूड़ी भर पेट खा लिया, पानी की कमी पड़ गयी, तो नानी याद आ गयी, दूसरे दिन सेठजी से हाथ जोड़ कर बोले ! ये तपस्या हमारे वश की नहीं है और उस दिन से उन्होंने मुनि निन्दा करना छोड़ दिया।

Slandering monks: a man used to slander ascetics greatly, so a merchant said, 'During the Ashtanhika festival I eat only after feeding a monk; become a monk for eight days and I will reward you with something precious and fine food.' Out of greed the man agreed, but plucking out his hair made him sweat through his teeth, and having to fast that day he saw stars in daylight. On the day of breaking the fast he ate his fill of halwa and puri, ran short of water, and remembered his grandmother (was utterly worn out). The next day, folding his hands before the merchant, he said, 'This austerity is beyond me' — and from that day he gave up slandering monks.
