बुढ़िया को तो हमने वहीं छोड़ दिया- एक बार ब्रह्मचारीजी यात्रा कर रहे थे, रास्ते में नदी पार करने लगे, तभी ब्रह्मचारीजी की दृष्टि एक बुढ़िया पर गयी जो असहाय थी, उसने कहा ! महात्माजी अपने साथ हमें भी नदी पार करा दो, नहीं तो रात भर यहीं रहना पड़ेगा, ब्रह्मचारीजी को दया आगयी, अपने कन्धे पर उसे बैठाकर नदी पार करा दिया, कुछ लोगों ने उनके गुरु से कहा, कि इन्होने स्त्री को छुआ है, ब्रह्मचारीजी ने कहा ! हम तो स्त्री को वहीं छोड़ आये, आप लोग तो यहाँ तक ले आये हैं।

We left the old woman there itself: once a brahmachari was on a journey and began to cross a river; his glance fell on a helpless old woman, who said, 'Holy one, take me across with you, else I must stay here all night.' Moved by compassion, he seated her on his shoulder and carried her across. Some people told his guru that he had touched a woman; the brahmachari replied, 'I left the woman back there, but you people have carried her all the way here (in your minds).'
