मायाचार से मृदुमति मुनि त्रिलोकमण्डन हाथी बने- नगर के बाहर एक मुनिराज ने चार माह के उपवास किये और विना आहार किये विहार कर गये, उस स्थान पर अन्य मुनिराज आकर विराज मान हो गये, लोगों को मालूम नहीं था कि उपवास वाले ये ही मुनि हैं या नहीं, और मासोपवासी जानकर पूजा की, मुनिराज ने बताया नहीं की हम मासोपवासी नहीं है, इस माया के कारण वे मृदुमति मुनिराज मरकर पहले छठवें स्वर्ग में गये बाद में त्रिलोकमण्डन हाथी बने।

Through deceit the monk Mridumati became the elephant Trilokamandan—Outside a town a monk observed a four-month fast and then wandered on without taking food; at that same spot another monk came and took his seat. The people did not know whether this was the one who had fasted, and, taking him for the month-faster, worshipped him. The monk did not disclose that he was not the faster. Because of this deceit, the monk Mridumati after death first went to the sixth heaven and later became the elephant Trilokamandan.
