Tunkari's forgiveness: no one could address the king's daughter as 'tu' (a disrespectful 'you'); at home it was managed, but seeing her fierce temper no one would marry her. With great difficulty a prince was persuaded on condition he never call her 'tu.' After the wedding, one day the prince said 'tu' by mistake; enraged, she left home. Travelling alone through the forest she was seized by Bhils who tormented her and tried to break her chastity, but she stayed firm. Finally the Bhils sold her to a cloth-dyer, where she suffered terribly — he would draw blood from her forehead to dye cloth, then heal the wound with herbs. Enduring such hardships, the virtue of forgiveness now entered her life. In one town a monk was practising austerity at a cremation ground; a tantric came, gathered corpses and built a hearth, not noticing the monk absorbed in meditation. He lit the fire and set a cauldron; the monk endured, but stirred from bodily pain, the cauldron fell; the man, thinking a ghost had come, fled in fear. The monk lay there; at dawn a merchant came that way on business and, alarmed at the monk's state, took him home and treated him. The physician prescribed lac oil, and the merchant went to Tunkari's place to fetch it; by chance seven pots of oil broke, yet she showed no anger. When the merchant asked her secret, Tunkari told him her whole story.
