यशोधर का यशवर्धन- श्रेणिक ने अपने शिकार में बिघ्न जान यशोधर मुनिराज के गले में सर्प मारकर डाल दिया, तीन दिन बाद चेलना से कहा तो चेलना श्रेणिक को लेकर मुनिराज के पास पहुँची, मुनिराज के ऊपर सेकड़ों चींटियों का उपसर्ग हो रहा था। चेलना ने उपसर्ग दूर किया। मुनिराज ने ध्यान खोला तो दोनों ने नमोस्तु किया। मुनिराज ने दोनों को धर्म वृद्धि का आशीर्वाद दिया। श्रेणिक को पश्चाताप हुआ, कि मैंने मुनिराज को तीन दिन भूखा रखा, उपसर्ग किया, उसके बाद भी ये हमारा कल्याण चाहते हैं। मेरे स्थान पर यदि कोई दूसरा होता तो मैं उसे मृत्यु दण्ड देता। अब मैं स्वयं राजा हूँ और स्वयं अपराधी हूँ, अतः मुझे स्वयं आत्मघात कर लेना चाहिए। मुनिराज मनःपर्यय ज्ञानी थे अतः वे श्रेणिक के मन की बात जान गये, और बोले राजन्! आत्मघात करना तो पाप है ही आत्मघात की बात सोचना भी पाप है। ऐसा सुनकर श्रेणिक को आश्चर्य हुआ और सोचा ये तो साक्षात् भगवान् हैं, और अत्यधिक पश्चात्ताप करते हुए मुनि से क्षमा माँगकर प्रणाम किया, जिससे सम्यक्त्व को प्राप्त कर, बाद में भगवान महावीर के पादमूल में क्षायिक सम्यक्त्व और तीर्थंकर प्रकृति का बंध किया, जिसके प्रभाव से सप्तम नरक की तेंतीस सागर की आयु घटकर पहले नरक की मात्र चौरासी हजार वर्ष शेष रह गयी, यह था क्षमा का प्रभाव।

Yashodhar's enhancement of glory: Shrenik, thinking Muni Yashodhar an obstacle in his hunt, killed a snake and hung it round the muni's neck. Three days later he told Chelna, who brought Shrenik to the muni; hundreds of ants were afflicting the muni. Chelna removed the affliction. When the muni opened his meditation both offered salutation, and he blessed them with growth in dharma. Shrenik felt remorse: I kept the muni hungry three days and tormented him, yet even after that he wishes my welfare. Had anyone else been in his place I would have given him a death sentence; now I myself am king and myself the offender, so I should take my own life. The muni, having knowledge of others' minds, knew Shrenik's thought and said: O king, suicide is a sin, and even to think of suicide is a sin. Astonished, Shrenik thought, he is verily God, and with deep remorse begged the muni's pardon and bowed, thereby attaining right-faith. Later, at the feet of Bhagavan Mahavir, he bound kshayika samyaktva and the Tirthankar nature-karma, by whose power his lifespan of thirty-three sagara in the seventh hell was reduced to only eighty-four thousand years in the first hell. This was the power of forgiveness.
