जो किसी पर दोषारोपण कर प्रवचन नहीं करता, ईर्ष्या नहीं करता, अपनी स्तुति नहीं करता, दूसरे का उपहास नहीं करता, दूसरे की गुप्त बात नहीं कहता, क्रोध को मारता है, शान्ति को स्थिर रखता है, प्रीति से पीछे नहीं हटता तथा अहङ्कार रहित होता है उसे सत्पुरुष सदा 'सज्जन' कहते हैं।

He who does not preach by blaming others, is not envious, does not praise himself, does not mock another, does not reveal another's secret, kills his anger, keeps peace steady, does not withdraw from love, and is free of ego — him the good always call a 'gentleman.'
