समृद्धि के क्षणों में पिच्छी जैसी मृदुता और विपत्ति के क्षणों में कमण्डलु जैसी कठोरता होनी चाहिए, मयूर-पिच्छी को देखकर जिसका मन मयूर नाच उठे कमण्डलु को देखकर आभामण्डल चमक उठे वही श्रावक है।

In moments of prosperity one should have the softness of the peacock-feather whisk, and in moments of adversity the firmness of the water-pot; he whose heart dances like a peacock at the sight of the whisk and whose aura glows at the sight of the water-pot is a true layman.
