विंध्यपर्वत के वन में भूख-प्यास से पीड़ित होकर मर जाना अच्छा है, सर्पों से भरे हुए तथा घास-फूस के घिरे कुँए में गिरना अच्छा है, गड्ढे और भँवर वाले गहरे जल में डूब जाना अच्छा है परन्तु समझदार कुलीन का शील से भ्रष्ट होना अच्छा नहीं है।

It is better to die of hunger and thirst in the forests of the Vindhyas, better to fall into a grass-covered well full of serpents, better to drown in deep whirlpool waters—but it is not good for a sensible, noble person to fall from virtue.
