पण्डित गोपालदास जी 1958 में बम्बई में रुई व चाँदी का व्यापार करते थे, एक व्यापारी को पचास हजार की रुई बेची, दूसरे दिन वह सस्ती हो गयी, उसको दस हजार का घाटा लग गया, उसने कहा पण्डित जी हमारा मकान ले लो कर्जा चुक जायगा, पण्डित जी बोले मैं खून पीकर पेट नहीं भरता, मैं तुम्हारा मकान ले लूं और तुम्हारे बच्चे दर-दर फिरें, मैं ऐसा नहीं कर सकता, न हमें मकान चाहिये न रुपया।

In 1958 Pandit Gopaldas ji traded in cotton and silver in Bombay. He sold cotton worth fifty thousand to a merchant; the next day the price fell and the man suffered a loss of ten thousand. The merchant said, 'Pandit ji, take my house and the debt will be cleared.' The Pandit replied, 'I do not fill my belly by drinking blood; should I take your house and let your children wander from door to door? I cannot do such a thing — I want neither the house nor the money.'
