लोग आहार विधि से अपरिचित थे। अठारह कोड़ा-कोड़ी सागर काल का अन्तराल हो गया था, लोग वस्त्र, आभूषण, राज्य, कन्या, आदि वस्तुयें दान में देने के लिए दिखाते थे, लेकिन नवधा भक्ति नहीं जानते थे इसलिये आदिनाथ जी नहीं रुके थे।

People were unacquainted with the proper method of offering food. An interval of eighteen koda-kodi sagar had passed; people would display clothes, ornaments, kingdoms, daughters and such things to give as gifts, but they did not know the ninefold devotion (navadha bhakti), so Adinath did not halt to accept food.
