धन्यकुमार चरित्र- अकृतपुण्य नामक दरिद्र जीव ने पूर्व भव में बलभद्र माँ के घर रहते हुए मासोपवासी सुव्रत मुनि को दान की भावना व नवधाभक्ति सहित खीर का आहार दिया, उसी पुण्य से वह अगले भव में धनपाल वैश्य का पुण्यशाली पुत्र धन्यकुमार हुआ, जिसके पुण्य से निधियाँ प्रकट हुईं; ईर्ष्यालु भाइयों के अनेक उपद्रव णमोकार मन्त्र व पुण्य के प्रभाव से टलते रहे, अन्त में वर्धमान भगवान् के समवसरण में दीक्षा लेकर, बाईस परीषह सहते हुए महामुनि बनकर सल्लेखना पूर्वक मरण कर सर्वार्थसिद्धि में अहमिन्द्र हुआ और मोक्षगामी है — यह कथा दान के श्रेष्ठतम फल को दर्शाती है।

The story of Dhanyakumar: in a past life the destitute soul Akrutapunya, living with his mother in the house of Balabhadra, offered kheer with the intention of charity and ninefold devotion to the month-fasting muni Suvrat. By that merit he was reborn as Dhanyakumar, the meritorious son of the vaishya Dhanpal, at whose merit hidden treasures appeared. The many attacks of his jealous brothers were repeatedly averted by the power of the Namokar mantra and of merit. In the end, taking initiation in the assembly-hall of Lord Vardhaman and enduring the twenty-two afflictions as a great muni, he died through sallekhana in equanimity, became an Ahamindra in Sarvarthasiddhi, and is destined for liberation — a tale showing the supreme fruit of charity.
