रुपमद- लक्ष्मीमती नामक एक कन्या रूप गुण का मानों भण्डार ही थी उसने मुनिराज के मलिन शरीर को देखकर भक्ति तो नहीं की किन्तु निन्दा करने लगी, इतना ही नहीं रूप के घमण्ड वश मुनिराज के शरीर पर थूँक भी दिया। इस घोर पाप के फल से उसके शरीर में सात दिन के बाद उदुम्बर कुष्ट हो गया, उसके घृणित शरीर में कीड़े पड़ गये, आर्तध्यान से मरण कर तिर्यञ्चयोनी को प्राप्त हुयी। कई भवों के बाद वह दरिद्रा नाम की एक कन्या हुयी, पाप के उदय से उसके शरीर से बदबू आती थी, उसको कोई अपने पास रखने को तैयार नहीं था, तब नगर के बाहर एक नदी के पास छोड़ दिया, वहाँ से मुनिराज का विहार हुआ उनके दर्शन करके अपने दुःखों के अन्त होने का उपाय पूँछा, महाराज ने धर्मोपदेश दिया पूर्व भवों के दुष्कृत का वर्णन किया, जिसे सुनकर उसे पश्चात्ताप हुआ, एवं अहिंसादि व्रतों के पालन करने का नियम लिया, जिसके फल से अगले भव में श्रीकृष्ण की पटरानी रुक्मणी हुई।

Pride of beauty—A maiden named Lakshmimati was as if a storehouse of beauty. Seeing the soiled body of a great monk she felt no devotion but began to revile him; more, in the arrogance of her beauty she even spat on the monk's body. As the fruit of this grave sin, seven days later she developed udumbara leprosy, worms infested her loathsome body, and dying in painful anguish she fell into an animal birth. After many lives she was born a girl named Daridra; by the rising of her sin her body stank so that no one would keep her near, and she was left beside a river outside the town. There a monk passed on his wanderings; seeing him, she asked the means to end her sufferings. The great one gave a religious discourse and described the misdeeds of her past lives; hearing this she felt remorse and took the vow of practising non-violence and other vows, by whose fruit in her next life she became Rukmini, chief queen of Shri Krishna.
