जिसने अपने को कुछ माना सो पिटा- एक राजभवन में शिष्यों सहित साधु का आगमन हुआ, गुरू जी ने समझाया कि आज यहाँ विश्राम करना है, कोई आये तो कुछ बोलना नहीं, गुरूजी ध्यान में लीन हो गये, उसी वक्त राजा की सवारी आयी, राजा ने शिष्यों को पूँछा-तुम कौन हो ? उत्तर आया-साधु हैं, राजा ने उनको बाहर कर दिया, अन्त में गुरू के पास गये तो वे मौन हो गये कुछ बोले नहीं, राजा ने उनको कुछ नहीं कहा और चला गया।

Whoever thought himself something got beaten: a monk with his disciples came to a palace. The teacher explained that they were to rest there and, if anyone came, to say nothing; then he sank into meditation. Just then the king's procession arrived. The king asked the disciples, 'Who are you?' They answered, 'We are monks,' and the king had them thrown out. At last he came to the teacher, who stayed silent and said nothing — and the king said nothing to him and went away.
