सेठ हरजस राय दिल्ली वालों ने विधान के बाद पूरी समाज को लड्डू बँटवाये, एक गरीब ने लड्डू नहीं लिये, मुनीम ने सेठ को खबर दी, कि गरीब ने कहा है कि हम सेठ को खिला नहीं सकते तो उनकी भेंट कैसे लेवें? सेठ जी दूसरे दिन बग्घी पर सवार होकर उसकी दुकान की ओर गये, वह हाथ ठेला पर चना-मूंगफली बेचता था, सेठ ने उसकी बरनी में से चना-मूंगफली निकाल कर खा लिये, पानी पिया और कहा भैया अब हमारी भेंट स्वीकार करो, हमने तुम्हारे यहाँ खा लिया, यह उदारता कहलाती है।
