परोपकार से स्वोपकार भी होता है, कीचड़ में फँसे हुए गधे को देखकर न्यायाधीश अपनी गाड़ी से उतर कर उसे बाहर निकालने लगे, ड्राईवर ने कहा अरे साहब आप क्या कर रहे हैं मैं निकाल देता हूँ, उन्होंने नहीं सुना और गधे को निकाल दिया, कपड़े गन्दे हो गये थे, किन्तु समय नहीं था कि कपड़े बदल सकें, उसी हालत में अदालत पहुँच गये, मित्रों ने पूँछा कि आपको आज क्या हो गया इतने गन्दे कपड़े क्यों हैं? नौकर ने सारा समाचार सुनाया और कहा साहब बड़े दयालु हैं, जज ने कहा! नहीं भैया मैंने कुछ नहीं किया, मैंने अपनी ही पीड़ा कम की है।

Doing good to others is also doing good to oneself. Seeing a donkey stuck in mud, a judge got down from his car and began pulling it out. The driver said, sir, what are you doing, I will get it out; but the judge did not listen and pulled the donkey out. His clothes got dirty, but there was no time to change, so he reached the court in that state. His friends asked what had happened that his clothes were so soiled. The servant told the whole story and said the sir is very kind; the judge said, no brother, I did nothing, I merely lessened my own pain.
