पण्डित पन्नालाल जी सागर वालों का बेटा बीमार हो गया, इन्दौर ले गये, भोजन अपने हाथ से बनाते थे, तो माचिस खरीदने बाजार गये, कहीं माचिस नहीं मिली, पण्डित जी ने पूँछा, तो दुकानदारों ने कारण बताया, कि हमारे यहाँ एक गरीब है, उससे माचिस बिकवाते हैं, ताकि वह भी सम्पन्न हो जाय, यदि हम लोग रुपये देते तो उसको हीनता महसूस होती।

Pandit Pannalal ji of Sagar's son fell ill and was taken to Indore. He cooked his own food, so he went to the market to buy matches, but nowhere were matches available. When he asked, the shopkeepers explained: there is a poor man among us, and we have him sell the matches so that he too may prosper; had we simply given him money, he would have felt demeaned.
