आत्मा में ही समीचीन भावना उत्पन्न होती है, आत्मा ही हित का ज्ञाता होता है, आत्मा स्वयं ही हित में लगता है इसलिए आत्मा का गुरु आत्मा है और यदि आत्मा पापों को कषायों को अवगुणों को नहीं छोड़ता है तो आत्मा स्वयं का ही शत्रु है।

Right feeling arises within the soul itself, the soul alone knows its own good and engages in it; hence the soul is its own guru. And if the soul does not abandon sins, passions and faults, then the soul is its own enemy.
