सेठ ने दो विद्वानों को प्रवचनार्थ बुलाया और अलग-अलग एक-दूसरे का परिचय पूछा, एक ने कहा वह पक्का बैल है, दूसरे ने कहा वह पक्का गधा है, सेठजी ने भोजन के समय दोनों को घास-भूसा का भोजन परोस दिया, विद्वानों के पूँछने पर सेठजी ने कहा! आप लोगों ने जैसा परिचय दिया वैसा हमने भोजन परोस दिया, दोनों विद्वान् लज्जा से नतमस्तक हो गए और ईर्ष्या छोड़ दी।

A merchant invited two scholars to give discourses and separately asked each about the other. One said, 'He is a complete ox,' the other said, 'He is a complete donkey.' At mealtime the merchant served both of them grass and chaff. When they asked why, he said, 'As you introduced each other, so I have served your food.' Both scholars bowed their heads in shame and gave up their jealousy.
