हमें जो मिलता है, उससे हमारी जिन्दगी चलती है, जो देते हैं उससे जिन्दगी बनती है। दान देने से पहले अपने कमजोर भाई को सहारा दो क्योंकि भगवान् से ज्यादा आपके भाई को आवश्यकता है। स्वयं जाकर दिया गया दान उत्तम, अपने यहाँ बुलाकर दिया गया दान मध्यम और माँगने पर दिया गया दान अधम व सेवा के बदले दान देना निष्फल है।

By what we receive our life runs, but by what we give our life is made. Before giving charity, support your weaker brother, for your brother needs it more than God does. Charity given by going oneself is best, that given after calling someone to one's home is middling, that given upon being asked is low, and charity given in exchange for service is fruitless.
