मुझे ईर्ष्या नहीं, ईश्वर चाहिए, मैं प्रसिद्धि के लिए विशुद्धि नहीं खोना चाहता हूँ, मैं शल्य में नहीं वात्सल्य में जीना चाहता हूँ, मैं हर काम में आऊँ जरूरी नहीं, मैं हर एक के काम आऊँ ऐसी मेरी भावना है, मैं जीत कर हारना नहीं, हारकर भी जीतना चाहता हूँ अर्थात् हारकर भी दूसरों का दिल जीतना चाहता हूँ।

I want not envy but God; I do not wish to lose inner purity for fame; I wish to live not in inner thorns but in affection; it is not necessary that I be involved in every task — my feeling is that I be of use to everyone; I wish not to win and then lose, but even in losing to win — that is, even in losing, to win others' hearts.
