यदि मुनि घुटने तक जल में प्रवेश करें तो उसका प्रायश्चित्त एक कायोत्सर्ग है और घुटने से चार अङ्गुल ऊपर प्रवेश करें तो एक उपवास प्रायश्चित्त होता है, इसके आगे चार-चार अङ्गुल गहरे पानी में प्रवेश करने पर दूना-दूना प्रायश्चित्त होता है।

If a muni enters water up to the knee, the penance is one kayotsarga, and if he enters four fingers above the knee the penance is one fast; entering four fingers deeper each time beyond that, the penance is doubled each time.
