पडपडिहारसिमज्जा हलिचित्त कुलाल भंडयारीणं। जह एदेसिं भावा, तह विय कम्मा मुणेयव्वा।।

आठ कर्मों का दृष्टान्त- देवता के मुख पर ढके वस्त्र के समान ज्ञानावरण, द्वारपाल के समान दर्शनावरण, शहद लपेटी तलवार के सामान वेदनीय, मदिरा के समान मोहनीय, बेड़ी के समान आयु, चित्रकार के समान नाम, कुम्भकार के समान गोत्र और भण्डारी के समान अन्तराय कर्म है, जिस प्रकार इनके भाव होते हैं उसी प्रकार ज्ञानावरणादि कर्मों का स्वभाव भी जानना चाहिए।

An illustration of the eight karmas: knowledge-obscuring is like a cloth covering a deity's face, perception-obscuring is like a gatekeeper, feeling-karma is like a honey-smeared sword, deluding karma is like liquor, age-karma is like a shackle, body-making karma is like a painter, status-karma is like a potter, and obstructing karma is like a storekeeper; as are the roles of these, so should the nature of the karmas beginning with the knowledge-obscuring be understood.
