अणवः स्कन्धाश्च सूत्र में समास क्यों नहीं किया? क्योंकि यहाँ भेद रूप कथन किया है। इस सूत्र से पहले जो दो सूत्र कहे हैं, 'स्पर्शरसगन्धवर्णवन्तःपुद्गलाः', 'शब्दबन्धसौक्ष्म्यस्थौल्यसंस्थानभेदतमश्छायातपोद्योतवन्तश्च' के साथ अलग सम्बन्ध बताने के लिये किया है, अणु स्पर्श रस गन्ध वर्ण वाले हैं, किन्तु स्कन्ध शब्द बन्ध एवं स्पर्शादि वाले हैं।

Why is no compound formed in the aphorism 'Anavah skandhashcha'? Because here a statement of distinction is intended. It was done to show a separate relation with the two earlier aphorisms, 'Sparsha-rasa-gandha-varnavantah pudgalah' and 'Shabda-bandha-saukshmya-sthaulya-samsthana-bheda-tamah-chhaya-atapa-udyotavantashcha'; atoms possess touch, taste, smell and colour, whereas aggregates possess sound, bonding and touch etc.
