सत्यनारायण के छह पुत्र- ज्ञानचन्द्र, रूपचन्द्र, धर्मचन्द्र, अधर्मचन्द्र, गगनचन्द्र और कालचन्द्र छहों को पिता ने बुलाकर काम सौंपा। ज्ञानचन्द्र! तुम्हें जानने-देखने का काम है। रूपचन्द्र! तुम्हे रूप प्रदर्शन करना है। धर्मचन्द्र! जीव-पुद्गल तुम्हारे दोनों बड़े भैया हैं, उनको चलने में सहायता देना। अधर्मचन्द्र! जीव-पुद्गल चलकर आयें तो विश्राम देना। गगनचन्द्र! आवास मन्त्री है, सबको आवास देना। काल! सबको परिवर्तन करने में सहयोग देना। ज्ञानचन्द्र सबसे बड़े थे अतः मनमानी करने लगे, ज्ञायक स्वभाव से उल्टा राग-द्वेष करने लगे, इससे संसार में दुःख भोगने लगे, दुःखों से बचने के लिए अपने ज्ञायक स्वभाव में आना आवश्यक है।

Satyanarayan's six sons: Gyanchand, Rupchand, Dharmachand, Adharmachand, Gaganchand and Kalachand—the father called all six and assigned duties. Gyanchand, your task is to know and see. Rupchand, you are to display form. Dharmachand, soul and matter are your two elder brothers; help them move. Adharmachand, when soul and matter come after moving, give them rest. Gaganchand, you are minister of accommodation; provide space to all. Kal, help everyone in undergoing change. Gyanchand, being the eldest, began to act willfully, and contrary to his knowing nature took up attachment and aversion, and so began to suffer in the world; to escape suffering it is essential to return to one's own knowing nature.
