ज्ञानी हँसता है- मिट्टी का खिलौना फूटने पर बच्चा रोता है, माँ-बाप हँसते हैं, उसी प्रकार सांसारिक वस्तु की हानि होने पर अज्ञानी रोता है, और ज्ञानी पाप का उदय समझकर कर्म निर्जरा के लिए हँसता है।

The wise one smiles: when a clay toy breaks a child cries while the parents smile; likewise at the loss of a worldly thing the ignorant weeps, while the wise one, understanding it as the fruition of sin, smiles for the shedding of karma.
