सात दिन का जीवन- राजा ने साधु से पूँछा कि आप स्त्रियों के बीच में रहते हो, मालपुआ खाते हो, इससे तुम्हारा मन चञ्चल नहीं होता है ? मुनि ने कहा इसका जबाव बाद में देंगे, कुछ समय बाद राजा को बुलाया, कहा आपका जीवन सात दिन का है, इन दिनों में खूब भोग भोग लो अन्यथा भोग कहाँ मिलेंगे, राजा घर गया चिन्ता में भोजन भी भूल गया, सात वे दिन सब लोग रोने लगे, लोगों का तांता लग गया, राजा मरा नहीं, आठवे दिन मुनि के पास गया, साधु ने कहा कि इन दिनों खूब भोग भोगे होंगे ?राजा ने कहा भोग नहीं भोगे रोते रहे, साधू ने कहा इसी प्रकार मृत्यु पर दृष्टि होने पर भोग रुचते नहीं हैं।

Life of seven days: a king asked a sadhu, 'You live among women and eat sweets — does your mind not grow restless?' The muni said he would answer later. Some time afterward he summoned the king and said, 'Your life is of seven days; enjoy pleasures fully in these days, else where will you get them?' The king went home and in his anxiety even forgot to eat; on the seventh day everyone began to weep and crowds gathered — but the king did not die. On the eighth day he went to the muni, who asked, 'You must have enjoyed pleasures fully these days?' The king said, 'I enjoyed nothing; I kept weeping.' The sadhu said, 'Just so, when one's gaze is fixed on death, pleasures hold no appeal.'
