नींद हराम- एक व्यक्ति ने मन्त्र जाप किया, विद्या सिद्ध हो गयी, विद्या ने कहा जो चाहो सो माँग लो, तो उसने कहा कल माँगेंगे, घर जाकर रात भर सोचता रहा घर, नौकर धन, या स्वयं तहसील दार, कलेक्टर, मुख्यमन्त्री या प्रधान मन्त्री क्या माँगे? रात भर सोचता रहा सो नहीं सका, सुबह विद्या से कहा कि अभी धन हमारे पास आया नहीं, तब नींद उड़ गयी, आने पर क्या होगा, इसलिए उसने कहा हमें कुछ नहीं चाहिए।

Sleep ruined: A man chanted a mantra and mastered a magical power (vidya). The power said, "Ask for whatever you wish." He said, "I will ask tomorrow." Going home he pondered all night - house, servants, wealth, or to become himself a tehsildar, collector, chief minister or prime minister - what to ask? He pondered all night and could not sleep. In the morning he said to the power, "When wealth has not even come, my sleep already flew away; what will happen when it comes?" So he said, "I want nothing."
