ममत्व भाव से दुःख- सेठजी की वेश कीमती घड़ी नौकर के हाथ से फूट गयी, सेठ ने बहुत डाँटा, रात में नींद भी नहीं आयी और न ही भूख लगी, किन्तु नौकर भोजन करके निश्चिन्त सोया, दूसरे दिन सेठ ने नौकर से कहा कोई बात नहीं, फूट जाने दो, दुःख इस बात का है वह घड़ी तुम्हे देना थी, अब रात में सेठ चैन से सोया और नौकर को न तो भूख लगी और नींद भी नहीं आई, वास्तव में ममत्व भाव ही दुःख का कारण है।

Sorrow from possessiveness: A very costly watch of the merchant broke in the servant's hand. The merchant scolded him harshly; that night he could neither sleep nor eat, while the servant ate and slept carefree. Next day the merchant told the servant, "Never mind, let it break; my regret is only that I had meant to give that watch to you." Now that night the merchant slept at ease, while the servant felt neither hunger nor sleep. Truly, possessiveness itself is the cause of sorrow.
