सेठ का चार साल का बच्चा गुम गया, सेठ ने बहुत ढूँढा पर कही नहीं मिला, तब एक नौकर को रख लिया, उससे रात दिन काम लेते थे, एक दिन नौकर बीमार हो गया सेठानी ने आवाज दी, उसने नहीं सुना, गुस्से में जाकर सेठानी ने उसका चादर खींचा और कहा चल काम कर, तभी उसके हाँथ में गुदा हुआ नाम देखा, पढ़ा तो सोचा यही नाम तो हमारे बेटे का था, पन्द्रह वर्ष हो गये अभी तक वापस नहीं आया, बच्चे से पूँछा, तो उसने कहा! मैं अपने माँ बाप को नहीं जानता, मैं पन्द्रह साल पहले खो गया था, बाद में माता-पिता नहीं मिले, यही मेरा पुत्र है ऐसा समझ कर सेठ-सेठानी खुशी से उछल पड़े, अब मेरा बेटा मिल गया और उसे छाती से लगा लिया, पहले उससे शक्ति से ज्यादा काम लेते थे पर अब उसे जरा भी कष्ट नहीं देना चाहते थे, मोही जीव अपने और पराये से ऐसा व्यवहार करते हैं।

A merchant's four-year-old son went missing; despite much searching he was never found. Later the merchant hired a servant and worked him day and night. One day the servant fell ill; the mistress called him but he did not hear. Angrily she pulled off his sheet, saying, "Get up and work," and then saw a name tattooed on his hand. Reading it she thought, "This was our son's name; it is fifteen years since he was lost and never returned." She asked the boy, who said, "I do not know my parents; I was lost fifteen years ago and never found them." Realising "this is our son," the couple leapt with joy - "Now my son is found" - and clasped him to their breast. Where before they had overworked him, now they would not give him the least trouble. Thus the deluded soul behaves toward its own and strangers.
