सम्बन्ध तीन प्रकार के- सांसारिक सम्बन्ध- माँ बाप का या जन्म से मरण तक चलने वाला सांसारिक सम्बन्ध है। सम्पादित सम्बन्ध- धन, पैसा, प्रतिष्ठा आदि का सम्पादित सम्बन्ध है। शाश्वत् सम्बन्ध- आत्मा का ज्ञान, दर्शन आदि से शाश्वत् सम्बन्ध है, पूर्व के दो सम्बन्ध छूट जाते हैं अतः हेय हैं।

Relationships are of three kinds: worldly — the bond of parents, lasting from birth to death; acquired — the bond of wealth, money, status and the like; and eternal — the soul's bond with knowledge, perception and so on. The first two relationships fall away and are therefore to be abandoned.
