वर्णी जी का श्रोता- गणेशप्रसाद वर्णी जी के प्रवचन सुनने एक साहुजी आते थे, एक दिन वह देर से आये, लोगों ने बहुत कहा महाराज प्रवचन करो, वर्णी जी ने कहा श्रोता आ जाय, जब साहुजी आये तब वर्णीजी ने प्रवचन शुरू किया, वर्णीजी ने पूँछा 'भैया आज लेट काय हो गये' उनने कहा आज पत्नि से झगड़ा हो गया, कारण? कि आज रात में चोर आये थे, उन्होंने चारों कोने छाने पर कुछ नहीं मिला, हम करवट से लेटे थे, उन्होंने हमारी घड़ी, अङ्गूठी उतार ली, करवट बदला कि ये सोने का कड़ा भी उतार ले लेकिन वे विना कड़ा उतारे भाग गये, पत्नि ने कहा तुमने करवट काय बदली बेचारे विना कड़ा लिये भाग गये,ये है निरीह वृति।

Varniji's listener: a Sahuji used to come to hear Ganesh Prasad Varniji's discourses. One day he was late; people kept urging Varniji to begin, but he said, 'Let the listener come.' When the Sahuji arrived Varniji began, and asked, 'Brother, why late today?' He said he had quarrelled with his wife: thieves had come at night, searched all four corners and found nothing; he lay on his side while they took his watch and ring; he even turned so they might take his gold bangle too, but they fled without it. His wife scolded him—'Why did you turn over? The poor thieves ran off without the bangle.' Such is a wholly desireless, indifferent temperament.
