अत्यल्पता निमित्ताच्छाले शाखिन्! नु खिद्यते कस्मात्। जीविज्जगज्जनोच्च, त्वमेव धन्यः समस्त भूभागे॥

हे धान के पौधे! मैं छोटा हूँ ऐसा मानकर तू खेद-खिन्न क्यों होता है? सारा जगत तेरी बदौलत ही जीवित है इसलिए समस्त भू-भाग पर तू ही धन्य है, यहाँ पर धान्य के पौधे के माध्यम से अल्प धनवान को समझाया गया है कि हे भाई मेरे पास कम धन है ऐसा मानकर तू क्यों दुःखी होता है? क्योंकि जितना भी है तेरा धन दूसरों के काम तो आता है, इसलिए पृथ्वी पर तू धन्य है, अर्थात् जिनका तन-मन-धन किसी के काम नहीं आता उनसे तो तू अच्छा है।

O rice plant! Why do you grieve, thinking yourself small? The whole world lives because of you, so on all the earth you alone are blessed. Through this rice-plant a person of little wealth is consoled: O brother, why be sad thinking you have little wealth? Whatever you have is of use to others, so you are blessed on earth; that is, you are better than those whose body, mind and wealth serve no one.
