अष्टमी अष्ट कर्मों का अन्त करने वाली है, चतुर्दशी सिद्धि प्राप्त कराने वाली है और पञ्चमी केवलज्ञान प्राप्त कराती है, अतः इन तीनों पर्वों के दिन उपवास करना चाहिए।

Ashtami ends the eight karmas, Chaturdashi grants accomplishment, and Panchami grants omniscience; therefore one should fast on the days of these three festivals.
