उदर में भोजन विना जठराग्नि के नहीं पचता है। रोटी विना तवा तपे नहीं बनती है। मौसम तपे विना वर्षा ऋतु नहीं आती है। वृक्ष विना धूप के तपे फलता नहीं है। दूध तपे विना मावा बनता नही है। पेट्रोल वाष्प बने विनागाड़ी नहीं चलती है। सोलह ताप विना स्वर्ण शुद्ध नहीं होता है। उसी प्रकार तपे विना आत्मा शुद्ध नहीं होती है।

Food in the stomach does not digest without the digestive fire; bread is not made without a heated griddle; the rains do not come without the season heating up; a tree without the sun's heat bears no fruit; milk does not thicken into mawa without heating; a vehicle does not run until petrol vaporizes; gold is not purified without sixteen heatings; likewise the soul is not purified without austerity.
