मैं चोर हूँ- एक चोर ने झूठ बोलने का त्याग किया, राजमहल में चोरी करने गया पहरेदार ने पूँछा! कौन हो? कहा! चोर हूँ, किसी ने विश्वास नहीं किया, सोचा कोई राजपुरुष होगा, जब वह चोरी करके ले जा रहा था तब पूँछा क्या ले जा रहे हो? तो उसने कहा चोरी करके ले जा रहा हूँ, तब भी किसी ने कुछ नहीं कहा, चोर स्वयं विरक्त हो गया, कि एक पाप के त्याग से इतना लाभ हुआ, तब सारे पापों का त्याग करेंगे तो कितना लाभ होगा?

A thief who had renounced lying went to steal in the royal palace. When a guard asked who he was, he said, 'A thief'—but no one believed him, thinking him a royal official. As he carried off the loot and was asked what he was taking, he said, 'What I have stolen,' and still no one objected. The thief himself grew detached, thinking: if renouncing one sin brought such benefit, how much more would renouncing all sins bring?
