सत्यघोष का असत्य जगत प्रसिद्ध- सत्यघोष ने जनेऊ में एक चाकू बाँध रखा था और कहता था कि मैं जरा सा भी झूठ बोलूँगा तो अपनी जीभ काट लूँगा, वह किसी की धरोहर वापस देता था किसी की नहीं, कोई–कोई राजा के पास जाकर उसकी शिकायत भी करते थे, लेकिन सत्यघोष के प्रभाव के कारण राजा भी किसी की नहीं सुनता था, एक दिन दूसरे गाँव का समुद्रदत्त व्यापारी रत्नद्वीप में व्यापार करने के लिए गया, उसने सत्यघोष के पास पाँच रत्न जमा कर दिए, लौटते समय जहाज डूबने से सारा धन समुद्र में डूब गया, वह सत्यघोष के पास गया, और अपने पाँचों रत्न वापिस माँगे, तो सत्य घोष उसे पागल कहकर भगाने लगा, राजा के पास भी न्याय न मिलने से वह दिन–रात सबसे यही कहता फिरता था की 'सत्य घोष मेरे पाँच रत्न नहीं देता है' रानी ने यह सुना तो राजा से न्याय करने के लिये कहा, रानी ने सत्यघोष और समुद्रदत्त दोनों की परीक्षा ली, और न्याय किया, राजा ने सत्य घोष को तीन सजा बताई उनमें

Satyaghosh's falsehood became famous: Satyaghosh kept a knife tied in his sacred thread and would say that if he ever told even a small lie he would cut out his own tongue. He returned some people's deposits and not others'; some complained to the king, but because of Satyaghosh's influence the king heeded no one. One day the merchant Samudradatta from another village went to trade at Ratnadvipa and deposited five jewels with Satyaghosh. On his return his ship sank and all his wealth was lost in the sea. He went to Satyaghosh and demanded his five jewels back, but Satyaghosh drove him off calling him mad. Getting no justice even from the king, day and night he went about telling everyone, 'Satyaghosh will not give back my five jewels.' When the queen heard this she asked the king to give justice; the queen tested both Satyaghosh and Samudradatta and rendered judgment.
