सत्याणुव्रत- स्थूल झूठ का त्याग, सत्यमहाव्रत- स्थूल व सूक्ष्म दोनों झूठ का त्याग, भाषासमिति- हित–मित–प्रिय वचन जिसमें बोले जाते हैं उसे भाषा समिति कहते हैं, 'जग सुहित कर सब अहित हर श्रुति सुखद सब संशय हरें'।

The minor vow of truth is renouncing gross falsehood; the great vow of truth is renouncing both gross and subtle falsehood; carefulness in speech means speaking words that are beneficial, measured and pleasant—'words that do good to the world, remove all harm, delight the ear, and dispel all doubt.'
