एक सेठ अपनी सम्पत्ति का लेखा जोखा कर रहा था, तो सातपीढ़ी तक के लिए सम्पत्ति थी, पर आठवीं पीढ़ी की चिन्ता में सेठ मूर्च्छित हो गया, मूर्छा समाप्त होने पर किसी ने कहा कि अपने गाँव के ब्राह्मण को भोजन सामग्री दे आओ, तो तुम्हारी आठवीं पीढ़ी की चिन्ता समाप्त हो जायेगी, वह भोजन सामग्री देने गया, तो ब्राह्मण बोला की आज के लिए तो मेरे पास भोजन है, तो सेठ बोला कल के लिए काम आएगा, साधु ने कहा! कल पीठ पीछे है, कल के लिए सङ्ग्रह करना पाप है। तब सेठ की आँखें खुली, ये तो कल की चिन्ता नहीं करता और मैं आठवीं पीढ़ी की चिन्ता कर रहा हूँ।

A merchant was auditing his wealth and found he had enough for seven generations, but worrying about the eighth generation he fainted. On recovering, someone told him to give food-provisions to a Brahmin of his village and his worry about the eighth generation would end. He went to give provisions, but the Brahmin said, 'For today I have food.' The merchant said, 'It will be useful for tomorrow.' The Brahmin (a saint) said, 'Tomorrow is behind us; to hoard for tomorrow is a sin.' Then the merchant's eyes opened: this man does not even worry about tomorrow, and I am worrying about the eighth generation.
