धन की नहीं साफ़ नियत की कमी है- एक किसान बहुत ईमानदार था, इसलिए नगर में उसकी बहुत इज्जत थी, दैवयोग से उसका देहावसान हो गया, उसका लड़का पिताजी की तेरहवी के लिए सेठ जी के यहाँ उधार पैसे लेने गया, सेठ जी ने पिताजी की छवि के कारण पैसे दे दिए, पैसे लेकर उसके मन में आया की यदि मैं सेठ जी के पैसे नहीं दूँगा तो क्या कर लेंगे, और आकर रास्ते में वृक्ष के नीचे सो गया, पैसे टोपी में रक्खे थे वह हवा चलने से उड़ गयी और भेंस ने उसके ऊपर गोबर कर दिया, जब सो कर उठा तो टोपी नहीं मिली तो वह घबरा गया, इधर-उधर ढूँढने लगा, जब नहीं मिली तो परेशान हो गया, निराश हो कर सेठ जी के पास पुनः गया, तो सेठ जी को उसकी हालत देखकर दया आ गयी, और उसको फिर से पैसे दे दिए, तब उसके मन में आया की मैं सेठ के बारे में कितना गलत सोच रहा था, सेठ जी कितने दयालु है, विना कुछ लिए दुबारा पैसे दे दिए, अब मैं सेठ जी का बिलकुल कर्ज नहीं रखूँगा, और कुछ दिन बाद किसी काम से उसी स्थान पर गया जहाँ उसके पैसे गुम हुए थे, वर्षा के कारण गोबर बह गया था जिससे उसकी टोपी मिल गयी, आकर उसने अपनी माँ को सारी बात बताई, तो माँ ने कहा बेटा धन की कमी नहीं साफ़ नियत की कमी है।

It is not a lack of money but a lack of honest intent—A farmer was very honest and so was greatly respected in the town; by fate he passed away, and his son went to a merchant to borrow money for his father's thirteenth-day rites. Because of the father's good reputation the merchant lent the money. Taking it, the son thought, 'If I do not repay the merchant, what can he do?' On the way he slept beneath a tree; the money was in his cap, which the wind blew away, and a buffalo dropped dung on it. When he awoke and could not find the cap, he panicked and searched everywhere; failing to find it, distressed and hopeless, he went back to the merchant, who, moved to pity by his state, gave him money again. Then he thought, 'How wrongly I judged the merchant—how kind he is, giving money again without taking anything.' Resolving to owe the merchant nothing, some days later he went to the same spot on some errand; the rain had washed the dung away and he found his cap. He came home and told his mother everything, and she said, 'Son, it is not a lack of money but a lack of honest intent.'
