खुदा से खुद की पहचान- एक व्यसनी को पत्नि शिक्षा देती है कि तुम व्यसन छोड़ो भगवान् से नाता जोड़ो। एक बार वह बाहर जा रहा था, तब पत्नि ने एक भगवान् की मूर्ति दी और कहा अपने को जानों, वह रोज पूजा करता द्रव्य चढ़ाता था, चूहा द्रव्य को खा जाता था तो वह चूहे की पूजा करने लगा, एक दिन बिल्ली चूहे पर झपटी तो वह बिल्ली की पूजा करने लगा, एक दिन कुत्ता बिल्ली पर झपटा तो वह कुत्ते की पूजा करने लगा, एक दिन पत्नी ने कुत्ते को लाठी मारी तो वह पत्नी की पूजा करने लगा एक दिन उसे गुस्सा आया तो उसने पत्नी को मारा तो उसे लगा कि अरे श्रेष्ठ तो मैं ही हूँ, तब से उसे अपने आत्म तत्व की श्रेष्ठता मालूम हुई।

Knowing oneself through God—A wife instructs her addicted husband to give up his vices and bind himself to God. Once as he was going out she gave him an idol of God and said, 'Know your Self.' He worshipped daily and offered materials, but a mouse would eat the offerings, so he began worshipping the mouse. One day a cat pounced on the mouse, so he began worshipping the cat; a dog pounced on the cat, so he worshipped the dog; one day his wife struck the dog with a stick, so he began worshipping his wife; one day, angry, he struck his wife—and then it dawned on him, 'Why, I myself am the highest,' and from then on he understood the supremacy of his own soul-substance.
