देवरानी जिठानी को पन्द्रह लड्डुओं ने श्मशान तक भेज दिया- एक बार देवरानी जिठानी ने पन्द्रह लड्डू बनाये, उनमें से एक को सात एक को आठ मिल रहे थे, उनमें से कोई सात लड्डू लेने को तैयार नहीं था तब निर्णय लिया, कि कल जो सुबह पहले उठकर मौन खोलेगा वह सात लड्डू लेगा दूसरे दिन दोनो नहीं उठीं, लोगों ने सोचा की दोनों मर गई, तब एक ही अर्थी पर दोनों को श्मशान ले गये, जैसे ही आग लगाने को तैयार हुए तब एक बोली 'तू आठ खा लेना हम सात खा लेंगे' जो लोग जलाने ले गये थे वे भी पन्द्रह लोग थे, लोगों ने समझा की दोनों मरकर डाकिनी-शाकिनी बन गयी हैं अतः हम लोगों को खाने को कह रहीं हैं, इसलिए लोग भागे, पीछे-पीछे दोनों भाग रहीं थीं, सारे नगर में अशान्ति फैल गयी, लोगों को वास्तविकता का पता चलने पर दोनों बहुत शर्मिन्दा हुईं।

Fifteen laddus sent two sisters-in-law to the cremation ground: once two sisters-in-law made fifteen laddus; one would get seven and one eight, but neither was willing to take only seven. So they decided that whoever broke silence first the next morning would take the seven. Next day neither rose; people thought both had died and carried them to the cremation ground on a single bier. Just as they were about to light the fire, one said, 'You eat eight, I'll eat seven.' The fifteen people who had brought them thought both had died and become witches wanting to eat them, so they fled, with the two women running after them. Chaos spread through the whole town, and when the truth came out both women were deeply ashamed.
