सुहदुक्खसुवहुसस्सं कम्मखेत्तं कसेदि जीवस्स। संसारदूरमेरं तेण कसाओत्ति णं वेन्ति।।

जीव कषाय करके जिसमें सुख-दुःख रूपी धान उत्पन्न होती है, ऐसे संसार रूपी लम्बे खेत को जोतता है अर्थात् जीव कषाय करके संसार को बढ़ाता है।

By its passions the soul ploughs the long field of worldly existence, in which the grain of pleasure and pain is produced; that is, through passion the soul enlarges its cycle of transmigration; hence it is called kashaya (passion, from 'plough').
